Getting better all the time

I ran outside today with my new Nike+ watch, and here's how it went.

Two miles baby!! Now in all honesty, I walked/ran.
I'm still getting used to the whole running outside thing. One thing I have trouble with is controlling my breathing. Patrick and the babes went with me today and he critiqued me, on my stance, breathing, etc. and he is helping me with my stride and controlling my breath. Isn't he so helpful? :)

After the run, I looked like a hot mess. But ooo, oo, OO!!! I did notice something today. There is this giant hill about a quarter mile down the road from my house and I ran (almost died, I kid) up that hill on the way home, but in the midst of my doing so I found my stride, and it was magical. I have been running with such a short stride I usually end up with major shin splints which kill, and as I was running up the hill, I lengthened my stride and it felt so right! :)

My baby

I got a present today.


The Nike+ Sportswatch GPS!!!!! Oh my!!! I feel soo blessed!!
This watch is designed to track distance, time, and your paths while you run or do anything outside.
It's so awesome!!! It can plug into my USB port to charge while I upload my data onto Nike.com to track my times and other nifty stuffs. Gaaahhh, I'm melting over this thing.

I'll try not to get toooo sappy. ;) I can't wait to try it out and let you guys know the scoop!

Anyone else have a GPS watch? If so, what kind and how awesome is it?

Weight Watchers Thursday

Tonight was my first (technically second) weigh in at Weight Watchers, and the results *drum roll please* 3 pounds!! :) Last week I weighed-in at 234.4 and tonight 231.4. I feel so good! I hope I keep it up!

Outside


Maine was perfect today. It was sunny with a slight breeze, and a slight dew on the grass from the rain we had yesterday. I was in heaven. I decided to run outside, which is something I've been putting off because I know it's a lot harder to run outside than it is inside with the comfort of my treadmill. It was too nice to pass up though, so I went for it, and I am sooo glad I did! It felt good to run outside, like a whole new stage in my running experience. The beautiful scenery, connecting to the elements, and running all on my own. Usually when I run Patrick is right in the leaving room, so I'm never technically alone. All the chances I get I'm going to get my booty out the door and run outside.
I can NOT wait for summer!

Anyways onto more serious things, like working out! I didn't eat well today, damn Almond Joy pieces, there's no one to blame, but myself. One thing I have learned along this journey is to not beat yourself up over eating a sweet now and then. Just pick yourself up and start over. So after cleansing myself full of water and trying to finish up homework playing on facebook, I decided to just go for  a short, but high intensity run. Just remember ya'll, it'll be okay. Promise.

Things that just make ya, Bloated

Well, well, well. Needless to say I was quite bloated all day and it made me really insecure about going for a run, but I decided say "Ah, to heck with it" and kept on going. I've been slowly inching my way into a vegan diet and it really is doing wonders for me! There are complete days where I don't have to take any insulin at all! OH YEAH! I've started drinking "green smoothies", (mega delish), and they give me such great energy! I bought a Green Smoothie book last night and it will be at my door step this Wednesday, if interested you can buy it on Amazon. 

Recipe for Blueberry Green Smoothie
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup blueberries (I used frozen)
  • 3/4 cup spinach
  • 1/4 cup cold water
Serves one.
How easy is that!? Mix it up in your blender and you are all set to go! Another great thing I've been eating lately are Luna Bars, (I'm a little late to board the Luna Bar train), but they are also delish, and they curb my sweet tooth. Only down fall is I think they might be the reason I'm bloating so badly. :(

Structure

Along my health journeys I've tried, every kind of diet. You name, I've tried it. I even tried that eating only cabbage soup diet...uuugghh, I shutter at the thought. At the beginning of this year as I started running I was like "I'll just watch calories and that will be good enough", well it was good enough for me to feel better, to keep moving, and to loose a little bit of weight. I've been a vegetarian for 2 years now, and have toyed with the idea of going vegan, but I'm just not quite sure I'm ready for that kind of commitment. :/ After these many months I began to get kind of lonely, no support system with my eating healthier, other than my wonderful other half Patrick, my daughter January-Grace, Mom and a couple of my friends. I felt like I needed more than that, people who were going through the same life choices as me. So yesterday, I joined Weight Watchers!!! Everyone was so kind, and motivating, and man did that feel good. It brought me to a whole new level, a whole group of people, on their way to healthy living, and best of all they're there for when you don't have such a great week, they get super stoked to help boost you back up. I'm mega excited!!! I feel great doing something like this for my self and I can't wait until next Thursday for my very first weigh in! I have designated Thursday to now be Weight Watchers Thursday and I will let ya'll know how the meeting went, and see how my weight loss is going. :)

Can you dig it?

    Today was my Monday night Fitness Boot camp class, and needless to say, it kicked my booty.


This is the end result.


Sweating it out hardcore, but totally worth it. I am beginning to indulge myself in some nice workout clothes after my weeks of refusing to buy any because a big t-shirt and sweats can do the same thing right? Wrong. I now see why they make these amazing dri-technology blend shirts! As you can tell from my picture above I am clearly sweating up a storm, but guess what, my shirt isn't even that wet, pllluusss it's super soft and comfy. I am in love. Try any new workouts or snag any fab gear?

Round is a shape right?

Well hiya! My names Ariel and welcome to my very first fitness blog! I have been over weight my entire life and have struggled with keeping my type 1 diabetes in check since the age of 11. January-Grace is my two year old daughter and after using the "I just had a baby" excuse for litttllee longer than I should have I've finally decided, this is my year! I am going to get in shape and start feeling good about myself!

So here it goes, my starting weight was 246.6..eeks! (I still hate admitting that.) I've been on my journey for healthy living for about a month now and so far I've lost 16! :) I am going to get healthy the right way, no starving, or skimping out. I'm ready for this change in the right direction! Let's do this!
